A total of 662 police recruits has officially commenced training at the Bomana National Centre of Excellence in Port Moresby, marking the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary’s second intake for 2025.
Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Administration, Dr Philip Mitna, officiated at the opening ceremony yesterday and described the intake as a historic milestone for the Constabulary.

Dr Mitna said the college, originally designed to train between 200 and 300 recruits per intake, had now tripled its capacity as the government pushes to increase police numbers nationwide.
He said since 2008, the Constabulary had been tasked with building a 10,000-member police force to meet the United Nations recommended ratio of one police officer to 450 citizens.
Dr Mitna congratulated the recruits for successfully completing the rigorous online recruitment process and urged them to maintain discipline throughout their careers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Training, Silva Sika, reminded recruits that the six-month training program would be demanding and required commitment and integrity.
