MPG PRESENTS K681 MILLION TO TREASURER

  • Over K681 million Budget for Morobe Province this year;
  • 25 percent of the budget is revenue raised locally;
  • The balance of the revenue will be sourced from the National Government and the donor partners.

Morobe Governor Luther Wenge this afternoon presented his province’s budget valued over K681 million to the Treasurer, James Marape for vetting and approval.

Treasurer Marape is also the serving Prime Minister.

The presentation at the Parliament’s State Function Room was witnessed by Finance Minister, Renbo Paita, Lae MP John Rosso and other members of Tutumeng, Treasury and MPG officials.

In making his budget speech, Governor Wenge said revenue component to fund the budget would be sourced locally (25 percent) and from the National Government (75 percent).

He said the expenditure items of his budget captured the development aspirations of National Government’s Medium-Term Development Plan IV.

Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP, John Rosso, who was also present during the occasion, said the province was the industrial hub of the country.

Mr Rosso acknowledged that the province was diverse and huge with 11 electorates to manage and administer.

He commended Prime Minister for the 25 percent GST revenue for the Lae City Authority which helps fund further developments in the city.

PM Marape said when comparing developments in Lae since 2019, the city has been improved under the leadership of DPM Rosso and Governor Wenge.

He committed that the budget would be approved in three to four days’ time.
