NADI STORMS CROWNED AS CHAMPIONS OF INAUGURAL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMNET

#Volleyball The Nadi Storms men and women teams were crowned as the champions of the inaugural Savaka Volleyball tournament hosted at Mahuru Village in Port Moresby.
The two teams dominated the three months’ tournament, coming out as winners in the grand final played on Saturday (December 14).
The tournament saw 10 women’s and 12 men’s teams competing in the open division. The teams were from the Mahuru Village community and neighbouring Kesi and Ebukorosi communities.
The tournament was initiated by community member, Lemach Lavari.
Mr Lavari said it was a great way to bring community members together during the holidays.
“Sporting activities like this is a great way to unite our people. I’d like to congratulate all the teams and communities who participated in this year’s tournament,” Lavari said.
Lavari, who was the sole sponsor for the major cash prizes in the tournament, said he would look to engage more corporate support for a bigger tournament next year.
“I’d like to extend my appreciation to the tournament’s coordinators who volunteered their time to ensure the tournament was successfully completed without any disruptions,” Lavari added.
Tournament Director, Harvey Ovasuru, said the tournament saw over 300 youths having participated across the men’s and women’s teams.
“This tournament was a success because of the immense youth participation and also it provided an opportunity for our mothers and sisters to sell food and other products,” Ovasuru said.
“We’d like to extend our appreciation to Vodafone PNG for supporting with trophies for the prizes and the UPNG NGI Sharks Alumni association for awarding our outstanding tournament performers.
“We’re looking forward to engage more corporates and sponsors for a bigger tournament next year,” Ovasuru added.
