PNG GOV’T SUPPORTS MANAM ISLANDERS WITH K10 MILLION

The National Government says it is still committed to helping Manam Islanders.

Minister Soroi Eoe confirmed that K10 million promised by Prime Minister James Marape was paid in April 2025.

The money went to the Manam Resettlement Authority (MaRA).

It will be used for important resettlement work. The Minister said the funds follow strict rules to make sure they are spent well.

Minister Eoe said MaRA and the Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs have worked together since 2019.

The money came at a time when MaRA needed it most. It is different from a K6 million court-ordered payment.

He said in a media statement that the National Government is leading the funding. But it needs help from the Madang Provincial Government, Bogia DDA, and others. They must work together to speed up the resettlement.

The Minister asked local leaders to help build roads, houses, and services. These will help Manam Islanders and nearby communities.

He said helping Manam Islanders is a top priority. Resettling them takes time and planning. There is no quick solution.

Minister Eoe said the Marape-Rosso Government says it wants lasting answers, asking everyone to work together, not turn this into a political issue.
