Late Governor’s son maintains lead in New Ireland By – Election primary count

The late Governor for New Ireland Sir Julius’ son Byron Chan is maintaining his lead in the provincial seat’s by-election count with 13,246 primary votes.

Chan is leading by 2,324 vote margins to independent candidate Kepas Aruban Wali who is on the second spot with 10,922.

In an update posted by the PNG Electoral Commission on its Facebook platform, the progressive tally as of 11:30am today is as follows:

7️⃣ Stanley John Wapot (Independent) – 458
8️⃣ Nelson Hungrabos (Independent) – 259
9️⃣ Rhodie Paut-Nawara (Independent) – 147
🔟 Joseph Willie (Independent) – 91
✅ Total allowable votes: 34,398
❌ Informal ballots: 941
🗳️ Total ballots counted: 35,339

📍 Results cover Murat, Tikana, Konoaga, Matalai, Namatanai, Nimamar, Sentral Nie Ailan, Tanir and Lovangai LLGs.
