Sealing commences for Madang 4-lane road project to reclaim its former glory

Sealing for the four-lane road project from Madang airport to its main Central Business District (town) has commenced.

Works and Highways Secretary Gibson Holemba said in a statement that the project was funded by the National Government under the flagship Connect PNG Program at a cost of K119.4 million.

He said this infrastructure project represents more than just engineering—it is a lifeline for a provincial economy ready to reclaim its status as a premier tourism and commercial hub.

“Today marks a historic milestone for the “Pearl of the Pacific” as the first layers of hotmix asphalt were laid on the long-awaited Madang Airport to Town Central Business District four-lane upgrade.”

“For years, the stretch of road connecting the gateway of the airport to the heart of the township has been a point of frustration for commuters and a bottleneck for commerce. Today, that narrative changed.”

As the heavy machinery roared to life, he said, the transition from dusty, potholed tracks to a modern, high-capacity corridor began.
The project includes:

– Four lanes of high-grade hotmix asphalt.

– Bypass Road and Steel Arch bridge over Wagol River towards Divine Ward University into Tusbab.

– Improved drainage systems
