The National Court has ordered an immediate stay on the eviction of settlers from Hohola White House in Port Moresby, following legal action sought by affected residents.
Lawyers acting for the settlers told the court that police relied on an outdated Port Moresby District Court eviction order and a warrant dated 16 October 2010 to remove residents from Section 17, Allotment 10, Hohola (White House).
Police maintained that the land is purportedly owned by Indonesian businesswoman Eliana Chan Tjandara Negara, through her company Naima Investment Limited, which holds the registered title over the subject land.
The eviction operation continued for two days before the National Court, presided over by Justice Cannings, granted interim orders at 3:00pm yesterday, restraining further evictions, intimidation, or interference with the settlers.
Following the court order, police have withdrawn from the eviction site.
The matter is scheduled to return to court on 9 March 2026 for an inter partes hearing on the stay orders.
