National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop this evening praised the opening of Eliseo Premium at Hohola as a significant milestone in the transformation of Port Moresby into a modern metropolitan city.
He emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between municipal and the National governments, and the corporate sector.

Speaking during the official opening this evening, Governor Parkop described the development as a powerful example of collaboration and confidence in the city’s future.
“Today is a milestone… a milestone for Eliseo and also for our city,” he said.
“I’m thankful that everybody is coming together to celebrate this renovation… all the different stakeholders, everyone contributed and made this possible.”
Governor Parkop highlighted the journey behind the investment, describing it as an inspiring story of growth and vision.
“This is a great story… a journey for Eliseo. We should not just celebrate the opening, but celebrate the vision, the determination, and the belief in our city and in our country,” he said.
He commended the investors for their commitment, noting that such developments play a crucial role in expanding services and opportunities for residents.
“Thank you for this massive investment, reaching out to our people, bringing services and everything that goes with it to our people all over the city. It shows you have a great dream and vision for your company and are here to be part of the city.”
Governor Parkop stressed that the project sets a new benchmark for future developments in Port Moresby and challenged other investors to rise to higher standards.
“This is a benchmark. We should continue to challenge ourselves to be even better,” he said. “We have seen different types of shopping malls and facilities in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Korea… we must aim for the right standards here.”
Reflecting on the city’s commercial evolution, he said Port Moresby has progressed through different eras of retail and investment and is now entering a new phase led by modern developments.
“Now it’s a time and moment… investors who are in this space are setting the best market. It’s up to our people to support and create the right environment for investment.”
Governor Parkop reaffirmed his administration’s vision of building a safe, inclusive and vibrant city that supports both business growth and community wellbeing.
“We want to create a safe, healthy, inclusive and liveable environment where everybody can thrive,” he said. “Everyone in the public and private sector can contribute to the vision of our city and to national outcomes.”
He also underscored the role of urban centers like Port Moresby in driving Papua New Guinea’s economic growth beyond traditional sectors.
“Our economy depends on minerals, hydrocarbons and commodities, but urban centers can equally contribute through retail, wholesale, hospitality, housing and other developments,” he said.
“We are a big part of the economic picture of our country.”
Positioning the capital as an emerging investment destination, Governor Parkop described Port Moresby as a city of opportunity.
“Why not come to Port Moresby? Others go to Australia or Singapore, but we are the next frontier. We are still growing, still developing—this is where the action is.”
He further called on more investors to take advantage of the city’s growth momentum.
“Make it happen—not tomorrow, but now, now, now,” he urged.
“You are putting your money in the right place at the right time.”
Governor Parkop congratulated Eliseo Group and encouraging continued investment in the city’s future.
