Nadia Wawii and Sina Simon amongst others who have been selected to join the Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) training at Goldie Barracks.
The young women are long-term residents of Walis Compound in Western Highlands Province.
Simon, one of the recruits, expressed her determination to succeed in the male-dominated career.
“Passing through the recruiting process was tough, but we made it,” she told our reporter.
“We had to leave our families and loved ones back home in Mt Hagen to pursue this opportunity.”
Wawii and Simon are eager to undergo the six-month training program at Goldie Barracks.
“We are looking forward to the training and proving ourselves,” Simon said.
The PNGDF has been working to increase female representation in its ranks, and these recruits are part of a new wave of women joining the force.
The recruits will undergo rigorous training and will be part of the PNGDF’s efforts to build a more diverse and inclusive organization.
The new recruits will be traveling up to Goldie Barracks today to start their training.
