The University of Papua New Guinea’s (UPNG) School of Law hosted its student orientation last Thursday evening at the Waigani Campus in Port Moresby.
The orientation coincided with the 37th Sir Buri Kidu Moot Court Opening Ceremony and was held under the theme “Reset 50: Constitutional Guardians Rising.”
The event brought together distinguished guests, including Anthony W. Roden-Paru, Arrianne Kassman, and Alfred Kimbu, along with representatives from Allens Linklaters, Transparency International PNG Inc., Kimbu Lawyers and Associates, and Namani and Associates.
Inspirational messages were shared with students and attendees, highlighting the importance of their role as future constitutional guardians.
Under the leadership of Law School President Shellian Pius and her 2026 executive team, several key milestones were announced.
These included a sponsorship from Kumul Minerals Holding Ltd for a K20,000 printer, allowing students to print assignments and projects at a subsidized rate of K0.50 per page.
According to Ms. Pius, the initiative aims “to make the life of the student easy” by providing affordable printing options.
Additionally, the installation of a water dispenser in the School of Law was made possible through the team’s efforts.
Kimbu Lawyers and Associates has also pledged K10,000 to sponsor the Moot Court competition.
Ms. Pius further revealed that the School of Law has several upcoming projects.
The projects include the construction of three to four study houses, as well as a seminar, networking night, alumni night, and a national outreach program-all aimed at enriching student experiences and fostering growth.
