Financial discipline, support take spotlight at UPNG HRM student’s event

The Human Resource Management Student Chapter (HRMSC) of the University of Papua New Guinea hosted its orientation event last Thursday at the New Lecture Theatre (NLT) on the main campus.

The event, themed “Financial Discipline for a Better Future: Start Today,” brought together students, professionals, and guests to highlight the importance of financial planning and management.

Distinguished guests included Mr. Raymond Kamb John, Head of the HRM Division; Mr. Frans Kootte, CEO of NCSL; Mr. Bob Kerry, PNGHRI Director of Membership Services; and Mrs. Sharon Niaga.

Keynote speakers shared valuable insights on financial discipline, encouraging attendees to adopt healthy financial habits.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of a K1,000 to the 2026 President of HRMSC, Mr. Ephraim Noel, by Mr. Kerry.

In his address, Mr. Kerry urged students and professionals to prioritize self-compensation, emphasizing the importance of rewarding oneself for hard work.

The event featured educational speeches from the distinguished guests, all stressing the importance of starting financial planning early.

The HRMSC aims to continue promoting financial literacy and professional development among its members.

The orientation marked a successful start to the chapter’s activities for the year, providing a platform for networking and knowledge sharing among students, academics, and industry professionals.
