Prime Minister James Marape says investigations into the Papua New Guinea Defense Force are actively continuing despite limited public updates on the matter.
Speaking to the media yesterday afternoon before departing for France on official duties at the Melanesian House in Port Moresby, Mr. Marape assured the public that significant work is taking place behind the scenes.

“The investigation is running as we speak. Just because there is silence from us doesn’t mean that no work is taking place,” he said.
PM Marape said the investigation team is conducting a full review into recruitment processes and leadership matters within the PNG Defense Force.
He said the inquiry is not focused on one issue alone but is examining broader concerns within the force.
“The General is also working with the team. The investigation team is looking not just at one area, but the entire top of the PNG Defense Force interest,” Mr. Marape told reporters.
PM Marape said the government wants to ensure there is no abuse of recruitment procedures or other practices within the force.
He added that the government remains committed to strengthening the PNG Defense Force, with plans to increase personnel numbers to 7,000 men and women through partnerships and cooperation with the Australian Defense Force.

Mr. Marape said authorities are allowing the investigation to run its full course to establish a complete and accurate record before any further action is taken.
