Prime Minister James Marape this morning arrived in Ihu, Kikori District, to launch more than K316 million worth of infrastructure and community projects aimed at improving transport, markets and public services across East and West Ihu Local Level Governments.
The launches are being held under the theme, “Connecting Communities, Empowering People, and Advancing Development in Kikori.”
The largest project is the K176 million Ihu–Muro Road, which is expected to improve road access and connectivity within the district.
Other projects to be launched include the K126 million Vailala River Bridge and K10 million soil stabilization works on the Keuru Bridge–Vailala River Road.
PM Marape will also open the newly completed K1.4 million Multi-Purpose Community Centre, officially commission the K700,000 Ihu Market and launch the K1.92 million Baimuru Market.
The projects are expected to improve transport links, expand access to markets, strengthen community services and support economic development throughout Kikori District.
The programme forms part of the Government’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and create opportunities for communities in rural and remote parts of Papua New Guinea.
