Active City Development Program, Marie Stopes PNG promote healthy living

The National Capital District Commission’s Active City Development Program (ACDP) has partnered with Marie Stopes PNG to deliver a Healthy Family, Healthy Community Educational Workshop.
The workshop is aimed at encouraging the city residents to adopt healthier lifestyles and take greater responsibility for their wellbeing.
The workshop was held at the Filipino Association of Papua New Guinea in Gordons yesterday, bringing together participants to learn about health, fitness and wellness as key foundations for stronger families and communities.
Opening the workshop, NCD Governor Powes Parkop said healthy individuals were the foundation of healthy families, healthy communities and a stronger nation.
He urged participants to take responsibility for their health instead of waiting until they became seriously ill before seeking medical treatment.
Mr. Parkop encouraged people to exercise regularly, eat nutritious food, undergo routine medical check-ups and make positive lifestyle choices.
He said poor health affected not only individuals but also their families, communities and the country’s economy, while healthy people were better able to work, care for their loved ones and contribute to national development.
Using the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs as an example, Mr. Parkop said wealth and success could not replace good health and encouraged participants to invest in their health throughout their lives.
He also urged those attending the workshop to share what they had learned with their families and communities to promote healthier lifestyles across Port Moresby.
Mr. Parkop said the NCDC would continue supporting the Active City Development Program and expand health awareness initiatives into communities as part of its long-term commitment to improving public health in the nation’s capital.
He wished participants a successful workshop and encouraged them to make health and wellness a lifelong priority.
