The PNG Power Limited’s 4-Mile office in Port Moresby has run out of new one-phase Easi-Pay meter kits for months.
Electrical contractors and their clients have been patiently waiting for the meters after having complied with statutory requirements including power line connection to houses yet without electricity.

When enquired about how soon the new stock will be replenished, a PPL source told PNG SUN that it will be delivered in a fortnight’s time.
However, the source said 3-phase Easi-Pay meters are available.
The source further said to the contrary that there are still some 1-Phase Easi-pay meter kits available at their Hohola Headquarters but were allocated for replacing old Easi-pay meters.
Responding to the shortage, a customer said the shortage hinders developments and economic growth.
“It is a loss of revenue for PPL. It is also a loss of business, jobs and its ripple effects are being felt across many sectors,” the patient customer, who have been waiting for months, told us.
