Strengthening protections for women and girls to build safer communities in PNG was the focus of a recent networking event in Port Moresby.
The event highlighted the important role women play across all aspects of the nation’s development, and the need to continue to improve access to services, strengthening legal protections, and supporting women’s leadership in decision making.

Acting Public Prosecutor, Ms. Helen Roalakona, who spoke at the event said: “Protecting women’s rights through stronger laws, better services and leadership opportunities is critical to the country’s future.
“Women are central to the development of Papua New Guinea, when women are protected by law, heard in leadership, and supported to participate equally, our communities and institutions become stronger.”
The event, hosted by the Human Rights Secretariat and the Business Coalition for Women (BCFW), brought together representatives from government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners.
Through the Australia-PNG Law and Justice Partnership, Australia continues to support efforts that improve access to justice, strengthen institutions, and help create safer environments where women and girls can exercise their rights and contribute fully to society.
