Call for urgent submission of resumption documents to put suspended 8,000 teachers back on payroll

The Acting Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), Maini Mike Ugaia has officially directed the immediate restoration of 8,000 teachers affected by the recent automatic salary suspension under Pay 10 on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

“To expedite the process, all Provincial TSC Advisors and Provincial Education Advisors are urgently requested to collect Resumption of Duty Summary Sheets from affected teachers and forward them to the TSC Headquarters without delay,” said Mr. Ugaia said in a statement today.

The automatic suspension was initially scheduled to take effect during Pay 7, he said.

“However, preliminary data indicated that a critically high number of 29,000 teachers nationwide would be affected.

To prevent widespread disruption, TSC management intervened and instructed the payroll division to defer the suspension deadline to Pay 10.”

Through continuous data updates and verification, he said, the final number of affected personnel was successfully reduced to 8,000.

“Teachers serving in provinces heavily affected by Cyclone Maila are strictly exempted from this exercise, and their salaries have been maintained to support ongoing recovery efforts.”

“Provincial officers are now required to take immediate action to collect all outstanding Resumption of Duty Summary Sheets from affected teachers in their respective provinces and dispatch the verified data to TSC Headquarters promptly to facilitate payroll reinstatement.”

“In addition, officers are urged to submit accurate and verified lists identifying schools physically affected by Cyclone Maila to ensure eligible teachers continue receiving uninterrupted salaries.”

He reiterated its commitment to teacher welfare and called on all provincial authorities to comply swiftly in order to minimize further financial hardship for affected teachers.
