Doulos Hope Missionary Ship brings hope to PNG shores

The Doulos Hope missionary ship docked in Port Moresby, has brought humanitarian aid and spiritual guidance to communities both in the city and Central province.

National Director of Operation Mobilization, Mr. Gabriel Markus has been with the organization since 1999.

Markus is a native of East Sepik but born and raised in Rabaul, East New Britain.

With over 25 years of missionary work, Mr. Markus has traveled to 50 countries, including Nepal, where he was arrested twice for sharing his faith and also in Maldives.

One of Doulos Hope’s recent projects saw 50 teams of crew members travel to Central Province and NCD to provide water purification, eye tests, and free eyeglasses to locals in Papa-Lealea, Porebada, Barakau, and Tubusere villages and other places in NCD.

Mr. Markus said: “Over 23 years overseas felt like a foreigner in my own country. I learned to adapt quickly to help my family again.”

The ship will spend a month in Port Moresby before heading to other Pacific Island countries. It will also travel back to Rabaul, Lae, Madang, and Kavieng.

Mr. Markus emphasized, “God is calling us to preach, help, and bring people into the light. There’s so many people yet to know Jesus.”

The Doulos Hope vision is to see vibrant communities of Jesus followers.

The ship will conclude its Pacific tour in September, he said.
