The Hiri-Koiari District Development Authority has donated a fourth vehicle to police in Central Province, with the latest unit handed over to the Biura Police Post to improve policing along the Hiri West coastline.
Central Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Joseph Salle in a statement said the vehicle would support police operations in communities stretching from Manumanu to Papa-Lealea villages, where officers often face transport difficulties.

Mr. Salle said Laloki, Sogeri and 15-Mile police stations had previously received vehicles from the Hiri-Koiari DDA, adding that two remain operational while the Laloki vehicle is still undergoing repairs.
He said the district’s size and poor mobility had affected police response efforts, prompting the DDA to assist with transport.
Mr. Salle urged officers assigned to the vehicles to use them responsibly and maintain them properly.
“Hiri-Koiari District is leading in purchasing police vehicles in Central Province, with four vehicles given to police so far,” he said.
He also acknowledged support from the Kairuku District Development Authority, which has previously provided vehicles for police serving Doa and Bereina.
Mr. Salle said police continued to rely on support from political leaders and district authorities to improve law enforcement services in rural communities.
Community leaders from Papa-Lealea and nearby villages attended the handover ceremony and said the vehicle would help police respond more effectively to law-and-order incidents in the area.
