K239.8 million Goroka Road upgrade to 4-Lane signed

Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae yesterday, executed a K239.8 million contract on behalf of the State for the upgrade of the Goroka section of the Highlands Highway into a four-lane road.
The project will be fully funded under the Government’s Connect PNG Programme.
The contract, valued at K239,799,295.27 including GST and contingency, was signed at Government House yesterday in the presence of Secretary for Works and Highways Gibson Holemba.
The project involves the design, construction and upgrading of the Highlands Highway through Goroka City from Mt Zion to Goroka Market, widening the existing two-lane sealed road into a four-lane asphalt concrete pavement road.
The upgrade is expected to improve traffic flow, road safety and transport efficiency through the Eastern Highlands provincial capital.
The National Executive Council approved the award of the contract to China Wu Yi Co. Limited, with company representatives Ding Hongliang and Zhu Zhongshan signing the agreement before Sir Bob.
The project will be fully funded by the National Government under the Connect PNG Programme and is expected to be completed within 36 months.
Mr. Holemba said the Goroka road upgrade is one of the major infrastructure projects being delivered under Connect PNG to improve road connectivity and support economic growth across the country.
