Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion, Jason Wavita Peter, officially opened the 2026 Jubilee Year National Public Service Dedication Service at Sir John Guise Stadium’s Indoor Complex, marking the start of a renewed commitment by public servants following the country’s golden jubilee last year.
The Dedication Service formed part of reflecting on the past five decades while setting the tone for ethical leadership and national development in the next 50 years.
Speaking at the event, Minister Peter said the gathering provided an opportunity to reflect on past achievements, give thanks, and recommit leaders and public servants to the future of the nation.
He acknowledged the presence of Prime Minister James Marape, ministers, Members of Parliament, the Chief Justice, the Chief Secretary, Chief Magistrate, departmental secretaries, public servants, and church leaders.
He said their attendance demonstrated a shared resolve to strengthen integrity and accountability in public leadership.
The 2026 theme, “Reset, Recommit, and Dedicate for a New Beginning in Papua New Guinea,” calls on the public service to uphold integrity, professionalism, and compassion as the country enters its next phase of development.
Minister Peter quoted Isaiah 43:18–19, urging leaders not to dwell on the past but to recognize the opportunity for renewal after the Jubilee year.
He said the message challenged leaders to reset attitudes, recommit to their responsibilities, and dedicate themselves to serving the people with honesty and accountability.
The Minister emphasized that public service is a trust given by more than ten million Papua New Guineans and carries a responsibility to lay a strong ethical foundation for future generations.
Minister Peter also reaffirmed the role of faith and the partnership between the government and churches in nation-building, citing the Constitution’s recognition of God’s guidance and the churches’ contribution to service delivery, family stability, and social cohesion.
He urged public servants to lead with vision, work with purpose, and serve with compassion as Papua New Guinea moves forward in its Golden Jubilee year.
The Minister later declared the 2026 National Public Service Dedication Service officially open.
