The National No1 has sponsored Papua New Guinean boxer John Ume following his BX-9 Interim Welterweight Championship victory over Hamzy Perwaisy by seventh-round technical knockout in Auckland, New Zealand, earlier this month.
The company said in a statement this week that the sponsorship reflects the brand’s commitment to supporting local talent and celebrating Papua New Guinean excellence.

Ume has built a reputation as one of Papua New Guinea’s rising sporting stars through determination, discipline and strong performances in the ring.
Through the new partnership, National No1 said they will support Ume as he continues his professional boxing career and represents Papua New Guinea on the international stage.
The sponsorship reflects shared values of hard work, resilience and national pride.
“At National No1, we’re passionate about supporting Papua New Guineans who embody the values of determination, perseverance and excellence,” said Liza-Marie Brooks of WR Carpenter Group Papua New Guinea.
“John has achieved remarkable success through hard work, discipline and determination, and we’re proud to stand alongside him as he continues to pursue even greater success both at home and internationally.”
For more than a century, National No1 has been part of homes, families and communities across Papua New Guinea.
The brand said Ume’s journey reflects its longstanding commitment to supporting communities and celebrating PNG success.
“John’s recent championship win was a proud moment for Papua New Guinea and a reminder of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication,” Brooks said.
“We look forward to supporting his journey and celebrating future successes together.”
