Over 60 Govt Printing Officers receive time management certificates from ITI

Over 60 staff members of the Government Printing Office (GPO) received certificates yesterday at the organization’s main office in Waigani after completing a two-day time management training programme conducted by the International Training Institute.

Managers, directors and staff of the GPO attended the certificate presentation ceremony.

Speaking during the event, Government Printer Christine Lenturut said the training was important for staff in carrying out their duties and responsibilities within the organization.

“We actually saw the training as important for them in terms of undertaking their roles and responsibilities in the organization,” she said.

Ms. Lenturut thanked the staff for making time to attend and fully commit themselves to the two-day programme.

She said she also carried out evaluations with each group after the training sessions.

“I had a discussion with each batch just to get feedback on the training, surprisingly, the collective response from each of the batches was very positive.

“They actually saw the training as very helpful in terms of workplace accommodation and also in their personal lives as well.”

Ms. Lenturut emphasized that, the training would be beneficial in the long term because time management plays an important role in everyday life.

“In all aspects of the training that was undertaken, it’s actually very positive and beneficial in the longer term. Because every day of our lives, time is important for us,” she said.

Ms. Lenturut also thanked the Chairman and Co-Founder of ITI and his team for delivering the programme, saying it would help improve productivity within the organization.

“Overall, the training is to improve the level of productivity in the entire workforce. Because when you manage your time properly, you complete tasks on hand, the clients are satisfied, and then you prepare yourself for the next task the next day,” she said.

She also noted that some positive changes had already been seen among staff members following the training.

“I’ve actually seen some improvement. It’s progressive, we have to start somewhere in order for us to reach a certain benchmark. Staff are coming in very early, around 7.30am, as a result,” Ms. Lenturut said.

One of the participants, Hermina Masta, thanked the ITI management and trainers on behalf of the staff who attended the programme.

“We’ve seen improvement in some of our staff. Some are still getting there, so on behalf of everyone, I want to say thank you so much,” she said.

“The training has taught us a lot.”

Meanwhile, ITI Co-Founder and Chairman Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval said the institution has been delivering programmes for about 20 years and remains focused on providing practical and useful training.

“We are the largest private institution, and we’ve been running programmes for about 20 years,” he said.

“Our aim is not just about giving training, but making sure it is useful, whether it is a long-term course or a short-term course.”

Mr Sentheyval said ITI also places strong importance on feedback to improve the quality of its programmes.

“We always get feedback in all the corporate training to make sure we know where things are and potentially where we might have missed out on something, so we can make it better. That’s how ITI operates,” he said.

“We’re looking more at quality and long-term relationships as well. There are a lot more courses to be offered so you will learn more.”

He encouraged participants to apply what they had learned during the training.

“The trainers can give you the knowledge, but it’s up to you to implement it. That is your part. If you implement it, it benefits everyone including your organization and yourself as well,” Mr. Sentheyval said.

He reminded staff that time management is only one part of personal and professional development.

“These are small components of your full life. Time management is one aspect of it. There are more things that you can learn as well,” he said.
