Prime Minister James Marape has challenged district leaders nationwide to deliver tangible results from public funding, citing Menyamya’s newly opened facilities as evidence of effective local leadership and implementation.
Addressing a large gathering at Menyamya District station on Wednesday, Prime Minister Marape commended Mining Minister and Menyamya MP Solen Loifa for delivering key infrastructure projects designed to strengthen government administration, law and order, water access and local trade.

The projects included a District Administration Office, a police station, a market facility, a water project and a rehabilitated rural lock-up.
“These facilities represent what our people deserve: Government services reaching their communities and public money producing results they can see and use,” Prime Minister Marape said in a statement.

“I congratulate Minister Solen Loifa, his District Administration and everyone who has contributed to these Projects. This is the kind of energy and commitment we want from our young leaders across Papua New Guinea.”
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP John Rosso, Morobe Governor Rainbo Paita, Bulolo MP Sam Basil Jr, and Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Minister and Unggai-Bena MP Kinoka Feo.
Government officials, development partners, stakeholder representatives and residents also attended the event, with large numbers of local people turning out to witness the opening of the facilities.
Prime Minister Marape said the Pangu-led Marape–Rosso Government’s development agenda depended on translating annual budget allocations into functioning services across districts and provinces.

“Our Government has been sending Development Funding to Districts and Provinces throughout the country, regardless of whether their Member sits in Government or Opposition,” he said.
“Our people’s ‘Right to Services’ does not depend on political affiliation. Wherever they live, they deserve roads, schools, health services, electricity, clean water and safe communities.”
He said Menyamya’s progress demonstrated the responsibility of elected leaders and public administrators to convert government funding into practical improvements for their communities.
“I want to visit Districts to open completed Projects and cut ribbons on facilities that are ready to serve our people,” Prime Minister Marape said.
“Announcements and groundbreaking ceremonies must lead to delivery. The real measure of our work is whether a mother can sell her produce, a family can access water, a police officer can serve the community, and a public servant can attend to people’s needs.”

The Prime Minister acknowledged ongoing road projects around the district station and along the highway, as well as power projects still under development.
He said completing these projects would improve service delivery, connect communities and expand economic opportunities by helping businesses and farmers transport their products to wider markets.
Prime Minister Marape also recognised Menyamya’s contribution to Papua New Guinea through agriculture, saying the district’s hardworking people and productive land provided a strong foundation for economic growth.
“Menyamya has contributed to our country through Agriculture for many years, and there is still enormous potential in coffee, cocoa and other crops,” he said.
“As our economy grows, I encourage our people to identify the opportunities opening around them and take practical steps to participate. Work your land, improve your production and build enterprises that can support your families.”
He said infrastructure investment and agricultural development must progress together, with better roads, markets, water access and electricity enabling rural producers to participate more effectively in the economy.
The Prime Minister thanked development partners, public servants and local communities for supporting the district’s progress and urged residents to protect and maintain the newly completed facilities.
“These assets belong to the people of Menyamya. Protect them, maintain them and use them well so they continue serving your children and future generations,” he said.

“I am encouraged by what I have seen today. When national support is matched by determined local leadership and community cooperation, we can deliver meaningful change.
“That is what the Marape–Rosso Government is working towards: development that reaches our people, strengthens our Districts and gives every Papua New Guinean a greater opportunity to prosper.”
