Public servants begin 2026 with dedication service: 3 percent pay increase for them

The 2026 Public Servants Dedication Service was held today at the Sir John Guise Stadium’s Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.

The event marked the official start of the 2026 operational year for the public service. It brought together public servants, pastors, Members of Parliament, departmental heads, and secretaries from various government departments and agencies.

The theme for this year is “Reset, Recommit, Dedicate, for a New Beginning in the Public Service.”

The theme was drawn from Isaiah 43:18–19 (NIV). It called on public servants to renew their commitment to honest, faithful, and dedicated service to the nation.

The ceremony focused on dedicating public servants to serve Papua New Guinea with integrity. It also included the launch and dedication of the Government’s 2026 Annual Operation Plans (AOPs). Public servants present recited the Public Service Oath as part of the program.

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape delivered the keynote address.

He spoke on the importance of discipline, accountability, and service to the people.

Chief Secretary Mr. Ivan Pomaleu also addressed the gathering, urging public servants to remain focused on national priorities.

During the event, Chief Secretary Mr. Pomaleu announced that public servants will receive a 3 percent general salary increase.

He said the increase will take effect next week in 2026. The adjustment forms part of the 2026–2028 Pay Fixation Agreement signed between the Department of Personnel Management and the Public Employees Association.

Minister for Public Service Hon. Joe Sungi spoke on public service reforms and the role of public servants in national development.

Church leaders, pastors, and choir groups from different Christian denominations also took part in the ceremony.

Rev. Mathew Tapus of the Christian Apostolic Fellowship led the dedication and spiritual commissioning of the public servants and the 2026 Government of Papua New Guinea Annual Operation Plans overall.

The dedication service set the tone for the year ahead. The public servants are reminded of their responsibility to serve Papua New Guinea with commitment, integrity, and honesty.
