Senior constable earns server security diploma after 25 years in Police Force

Senior constable in the PNG police force Mr. Lawrence Kurongan has described his achievement as a missing course after serving the force for 25 years.

Mr. Kurongan, 47 years old, graduated with a Diploma in Server Security at the Datec Learning Center, Port Moresby on Tuesday.

He comes from Bukitu village in East Sepik province.

After the graduation at the Sir John Guise Stadium, Mr. Kurongan told our PNG SUN reporter:

“My achievement is the missing course after 25 years of working.”

“As an investigator in the police force, investigation involves server tools like AI as we are driving towards the digital world transformation,” Mr. Kurongan said.

He added that every day, different types of crimes are committed.

“So, we do not have the skills and knowledge to manage them at the current stage of the technological revolution around the world.

“This has motivated me to study and uplift my skills and knowledge in the ICT world.”

However, he stressed that he is now confident with his Diploma in Server Security.

The knowledge and skills he learned can be delivered in the working field, he said.

He emphasized that he is also registered for another Diploma. He is studying Information Technology at the same school-Datec Learning Center in Port Moresby.

He said that he is looking forward to graduating next year, 2027, with a Diploma in Information Technology.

Mr. Kurongan told the PNG SUN: “I was self-sponsored, not sponsored by the police department.”

It was his first time graduating apart from the Police Force.

Mr. Kurongan’s achievement was witnessed by his paternal uncles, relatives, colleagues and friends.
