Solomon Airlines has launched a special international airfare sale to mark the commencement of its new Port Moresby-Honiara service and the Solomon Islands’ 48th Independence anniversary, offering discounted fares for travel between the two Melanesian nations.
The promotion was announced on Monday as the airline celebrated the inaugural departure of its restored direct service linking Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, a route expected to strengthen tourism, business, trade and cultural ties after a 15-year absence.
Under the promotion, travelers can purchase one-way fares between Port Moresby and Honiara from K980, while return fares start from K2,030 on selected travel dates.
In a statement yesterday, Solomon Airlines Commercial Manager John Wopereis said July was a significant month for the Pacific, with both the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu celebrating important national milestones.
“July is a month for significant celebrations in both countries and by offering discounted fares we are encouraging travel between Pacific neighbors while recognizing these important national occasions,” Mr. Wopereis said.
He said the fare sale extends across the airline’s international network, providing Papua New Guinean travelers with greater opportunities to visit the Solomon Islands and connect to other regional destinations served by Solomon Airlines.
The discounted fares are available for purchase until July 31, unless sold out earlier, with travel on selected dates continuing through to June 2027.
The announcement follows the successful launch of the new weekly Port Moresby-Honiara service at Jacksons International Airport, where the inaugural flight was welcomed with cultural performances, official speeches and a ceremonial water cannon salute.
Solomon Airlines said passengers travelling on its international services continue to receive complimentary inflight meals and beverages, a 30-kilogram checked baggage allowance in Economy Class, a seven-kilogram cabin baggage allowance and the airline’s full-service hospitality.
The airline said the special promotion forms part of its efforts to encourage greater travel and strengthen regional connectivity between Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the wider Pacific.
