Tonde writes to Ombudsman Commission to investigate eviction orders

Local businessman and lands consultant Joe Tonde has written to the PNG Ombudsman Commission to request a stop to all the eviction activities citywide and, investigate and verify land titles with survey records to ensure transparency and accountability prevail.

A copy of the letter signed and stamped by the watchdog shows the subject was on evictions carried out in the city.

PNG SUN accessed a copy of this letter.

On the letter, Mr. Tonde said: “I write to express grave concern and urgent urgency regarding the ongoing mass evictions in the National Capital District.”

The allegations of improper eviction processes, multiple land titles, and disregard of court orders are disturbing, he said.

Mr. Tonde claimed that with 25 reported deaths and widespread hardship, immediate action is needed.

He did not provide death certificates to confirm the above claim.

Consultant Tonde has requested the Commission to:

– initiate an urgent investigation into the evictions.

– suspend all eviction activities pending investigation; and,

-Ensure accountable justice for any wrongdoing.

“The people of NCD deserve protection. We urge prompt action to address these serious concerns, Mr. Tonde said on the letter.
