PARLIAMENT HAS CONFIDENCE IN PM MARAPE

The Parliament this morning voted 84-0 in favour of Prime Minister, James Marape on a motion without notice moved by the leader of Government Business, Renbo Paita.

Paita moved a motion of Confidence in PM Marape. Opposition MPs objected it with Point of Orders warning it was not within the perimeters of laws and Parliamentary Standing Orders.

Parliamentary Opposition MPs boycotted Parliament meeting when the vote was taken. They came back after the outcome was read out by the acting Speaker.

Making a statement after the vote, PM Marape commended the MPs for having confidence in him.

Speaking on the boycott, PM Marape said the conduct of Parliament is based on ‘numbers.’

He also commended the acting Speaker for conducting Parliamentary meetings without fear or favor.

“No need to yell up and down,” he told Parliament.

Meanwhile, the motion of No-confidence filed against PM Marape will still be deliberated by Parliament. The matter is before the court.
