His appointment followed a comprehensive and rigorous selection process conducted by the National St John Council to ensure the continued strength, sustainability, and strategic direction of the organization.

Mr. Tane commenced in the role on 17 November 2025, ahead of this formal announcement.

The Council also extends its appreciation to Dr Arabella Koliwan for her service as Interim Chief Executive during the transition period.

Council Board Chair, Mr. Isikeli Taureka, said Dr Koliwan provided steady and effective leadership that ensured continuity for the organization and thanked her sincerely for her contribution.

Mr. Taureka expressed confidence in Mr. Tane’s appointment, noting that his almost two decades of experience as a paramedic and senior leader across the health sector will further advance National St John Ambulance’s mission to deliver high-quality emergency medical and community health services.

“We are confident that Kai Tane will lead National St John Ambulance with integrity, vision, and a strong focus on service excellence. The Council looks forward to working closely with him as we continue to serve communities across the country,” Mr. Taureka said in a statement yesterday.

The National St John Council, management, staff, and volunteers warmly welcome Mr. Tane to the organization and look forward to this next chapter of leadership.
