Survivors and internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the Mulitaka landslide in Enga Province have petitioned authorities.
They have demanded that the immediate release of disaster fund reports, the transfer of remaining relief funds to the resettlement authority, and the removal of the authority’s acting chief executive officer.
The petition, signed by landowners, community leaders and permanent board members of the Mulitaka Resettlement Authority (MRA), was issued ahead of a peaceful march in Wabag Town.
It was claimed that affected families have waited more than two years for proper resettlement while questions remain over the management of millions of kina in disaster donations.
The petitioners said their three key demands are the immediate release of a full physical and financial report on all Mulitaka disaster donations held by the Enga Provincial Disaster Management Committee (PDMC), the transfer of all remaining disaster funds to the Mulitaka Resettlement Authority to support displaced families and small business programs, and the immediate revocation of Mr. Nason Kaki as Acting CEO of the authority in accordance with the Wabag Accord and board endorsement.
The group alleged that despite repeated requests, the Enga Provincial Disaster Management Committee had failed to provide a comprehensive report detailing how disaster relief funds and donated supplies had been used.
They also claimed the Mulitaka Resettlement Authority was facing a governance crisis over the appointment of Mr. Kaki as Acting CEO, alleging it was inconsistent with the Wabag Accord signed on November 20, 2025, and raising concerns over the alleged falsification of board minutes and abuse of office.
The petition was addressed to Enga Provincial Administrator and PDMC chairman Sandy Tsaka and MRA board chairman Saki Ipata, with copies also forwarded to Prime Minister James Marape, Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, Minister for Inter-Government Relations Soroi Eoe, the Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs, Resident Judge Justice Graham Ellis, Enga Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent Steven Harris, New Porgera Limited General Manager James McTienan, board members and the media.
A peaceful march was staged from Wabag Grandstand to the Enga Provincial Government headquarters under Section 47 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of assembly. They were chanting ‘Rausim MRA.’
The group stressed that the protest was not intended to undermine the government but to seek transparency, accountability and justice for people displaced by the Mulitaka landslide.
They warned that if their demands were not addressed within seven days of the petition, they would consider taking further lawful action.
