Enga police arrest 51 suspects in two-day patrol operation

Fifty-one suspects have been arrested during a two-day police drunk patrol from Wapenamanda to Wabag in Enga Province, according to Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Daniel Yangen.

In a statement today, he said his police officers are intensifying the operation to maintain law and order throughout the festive season until December.

He said the operation began last Friday and would continue until the end of December to ensure a trouble-free festive season.

He said Wabag police cells were already filled to capacity, forcing police to hold some suspects in the inner corridor.

Among those detained is the Porgera Police Station Commander, who is facing allegations of misusing public property.

His allocated vehicle has been grounded at Wabag Police station, PPC Yangen said.

Mr. Yangen called on provincial and local-level government leaders to support police by building larger police stations and establishing police posts in all local-level government areas.

All suspects remain in custody pending charges, he said.
