NCD Games, featuring soccer, rugby league, volleyball, rugby touch, basketball, netball and rugby 7s, are now on, following the official launch by NCD Governor Powes Parkop last Friday in Port Moresby’s Bisini Soccer Field.
The launch marked the start of an exciting new chapter in 10-week of community sports citywide.

The matches will be played on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The opening day featured soccer matches in both the Men’s and Women’s Divisions at Bisini, while basketball and volleyball games commenced at Gerehu Sports Centre.
Over the next ten weeks, teams from across the city will compete in a vibrant community sporting season.

The Soccer, Netball and Rugby 7s matches will be played at Bisini Parade Sporting Park.
Murray Barracks will be hosting Rugby League and Touch Rugby.

Gerehu Stage 2 Sports Centre and Gerehu Stage 3 field will be hosting Basketball and Volleyball matches.
Built on the success and legacy of the Governor’s Cup, the NCD Games provide a broader platform for communities to unite through sports.

The competition, which will be showcasing the seven sporting codes, will start next week, with matches continuing across the city throughout the season.
Governor Parkop in a statement yesterday said the new initiative extends the achievements of the Governor’s Cup while creating a stronger, more inclusive community sporting framework.

“While the Governor’s Cup has been a highly successful tournament that has contributed greatly to our city’s journey, we now want to extend that success into a new season competition grounded in community sport,” he said.
He emphasized that sport remains a powerful platform to bring people together, especially in a diverse city like Port Moresby. The Games are being held under the theme: “Sports Unite: One City, One People, One Future”-encouraging athletes and communities to compete with respect, unity, and pride.

The competition is delivered by the Sports, Youth and Civic Engagement Branch of NCDC’s Social Development Directorate, with the full support from the Governor’s Office.
Registrations remain open for all sporting codes until Friday, October 9, except soccer, which has already closed.
