The Government of Papua New Guinea and the Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) convened a bilateral meeting at the Sheraton Hotel in Port Moresby on Wednesday to strengthen bilateral partnership and development cooperation.

The meeting resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and two Exchanges of Notes (E/N) between the Department of National Planning and Monitoring (DNPM), representing the Government of PNG, and CIDCA.

The agreements cover development projects aimed at supporting Papua New Guinea’s socio-economic growth and infrastructure development in line with the country’s Medium Term Development Plan IV.

The projects have been discussed and agreed upon by CIDCA and the implementing agencies, including the National Capital District Commission (NCDC), Governor Hon. Powes Parkop, MP, and Minister for Finance and Member for Kerema Open, Hon. Thomas Opa, MP.

The projects were formally requested by the Government of Papua New Guinea to support national development priorities.

The Exchanges of Notes will be officiated by Minister for National Planning Hon. Sir Ano Pala, KBE, CMG, ISO, MP, and CIDCA Chairman Mr. Chen Xiaodong.
Following the conclusion of the Exchanges of Notes, implementation of the two projects will commence.

Meanwhile, projects listed under the MoU remain pipeline projects and are yet to be formally finalized.

The proposed Surgical Centre Building at Port Moresby General Hospital is estimated to cost RMB200 million, equivalent to approximately K176 million.
