Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu was reappointed by the National Executive Council as the Chief Secretary to Government for a second term in office after his contract expired on 31 December 2024.
Mr. Pomaleu, in the presence of the Head of State, the Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Bob Dadae, signed a four-year term contract of employment renewal that was endorsed by the National Executive Council on 20 August 2025.
The contract signing ceremony was officiated at Government House on yesterday in Port Moresby.
It marks a renewed commitment by the Chief Secretary to serve as the Head of the Public Service and other government institutions in the country.
Mr. Pomaleu was among other signing parties, including Jerry Ubase, Secretary for the Department of Community Development, Youth and Religion; Alan Aku, Managing Director of Kokonas Indastri Koporesan; Dr Nime Kotran Kapo, of the National Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Authority (NAQIA); and Elizabeth Ramaltap, Assistant Legislative Counsel, who were reappointed or appointed by the National Executive Council in their respective roles as heads of departments and government institutions.
In his closing remarks, Chief Secretary Pomaleu said the signing of their employment contracts marked the finalization of their relationship with the government pertaining to their respective duties and the responsibilities they represent.
“We do have an important task, and that is to fulfil the requirements of our contracts based on our performance. This means we have agreed to ensure that we deliver on the important outcomes required of us by the government,” he said.
On behalf of the signing parties, Mr. Pomaleu thanked the government for the recognition and the opportunity to serve the country.
“I want to thank the government for the opportunity to serve our great nation in the various capacities we serve in,” he said.
Mr. Pomaleu reaffirmed that the number of reappointments demonstrates the government’s intention to maintain consistency and stability in these senior roles.
“We do not take our reappointments for granted. We have a job to do, and we must continue to put our best foot forward in meeting the requirements expected by the country,” he concluded.
