COURT ORDER THREATENS PUMA ENERGY TO SUPPLY AIRLINE FUEL NEEDS

Despite an announcement by Puma Energy (PNG) Limited on Saturday night to reintroduce aviation fuel rationing, PNG Air says the airline is unfazed in light of an active court order.

The court order is effective until Wednesday 15th of May 2024.

In a media statement today, the airliner advised all its customers that about the reintroduction of fuel rationing of JETA1.

“PNG Air currently has a court injunction binding PUMA to provide 100% of its fuel needs across our network until the 15th of May 2024. PNG Air is engaging with PUMA Energy to secure assurances that the Court Order will be honored.

“Since the last Fuel Crisis (February – March 2024) dialogue between PNG Air and PUMA Energy has not matured in a sustainable fuel supply arrangement. PUMA is seeking to pass risk associated with currency fluctuations and foreign exchange access to PNG Air. Despite these challenges PNG Air intends to work through the process with PUMA to see what can be arranged,” PNG Air said in a media statement.

“Notwithstanding PNG Air is unable to continually incur losses and manage operational failures due to interruptions of the PUMA supply chain. To this end our company is pursuing multiple supply options so that operational certainty can be assured.”

“No flights are expected to be interrupted at this point in time.”

At this stage, the situation is being monitored closely and we will advise should there be any new developments. PNG Air would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this time and appreciate your continued support in flying with us. Thank you,” it said.
