A determination to overcome workplace challenges and improve his future has led Francis Pianz from the telecommunications sector into the field of data intelligence, marking a major personal and professional breakthrough.
The Wabag’s Kopen native from Enga Province graduated yesterday with a Diploma in Data Analysis and Business Intelligence from Datec Learning Centre.
He was amongst 334 other graduates at the institution’s 15th Graduation Ceremony at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
Mr. Pianz spent the past five years in Kavieng as a Business Manager with Telecom PNG Limited, where he faced increasing demands managing operations in a challenging environment.
“So, working with Telikom and managing its business was very difficult at times,” he said.
Motivated to strengthen his skills, he applied to study at Datec Learning Centre. However, financial constraints nearly derailed his plans, as he balanced family responsibilities with limited support.
His turning point came when Kavieng MP, Hon. Ian Ling-Stuckey, provided a K25,000 sponsorship, fully covering his studies in 2025.
“Without that help, I would not have reached this point,” Mr. Pianz told PNG SUN.
Completing his studies at the end of 2025, he described the achievement as a proud and defining moment.
He has already secured a new role with the New Ireland Provincial Administration as a Project Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, a position aligned with his new qualifications.
“I am ready to apply what I have learned and contribute to the New Ireland Provincial Administration,” he said.
Despite being from Enga Province, Mr. Pianz expressed gratitude to the people and government of New Ireland for the opportunity.
“They have given me this opportunity, and I will serve them with commitment,” he said.
He is expected to take up his new role shortly after graduation.
Mr. Pianz encouraged Papua New Guineans, especially working professionals, to continue their education whenever possible.
“Age should not stop anyone from learning. If there is an opportunity, take it. It will help you grow and improve in your work environment,” he said.
He also thanked Datec Learning Centre for its support throughout his studies and dedicated his achievement to his family, clan, and wife.
“I made many sacrifices, but my family supported me all the way. This success belongs to them,” he said.
Mr. Pianz also acknowledged his brothers and relatives for encouraging him to pursue further education.
His journey stands as a reminder that while success may be difficult, it remains achievable through determination, support, and a willingness to learn.
