GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR PNG PORTS A SUCCESS

The Graduate Development Program initiative of the PNG Ports Corporation has seen graduates, who previously underwent the program, have been promoted to executive management positions within the organizational ranks.

Chief Executive Officer of PNG Ports, Neil Papenfus, said in a statement this week that the GDP is just one of the company’s many success stories.

Mr. Papenfus said the success rate of the Program was a feat worth commending as the GDP grooms graduates into leaders of the company.

The GDP has produced two members of the Executive Management Team, holding key positions with Felix Bauri as the Chief Operations Officer and Ben Tomba, as Chief Maritime Compliance Officer.

There is also a good number of managers and team leaders who underwent the GDP successfully.

Mr. Papenfus said the number of leaders within the company shows the success of the GDP and how PNG Ports recruits, trains and accelerates the development of talented, smart and ambitious graduates.

“Our employees remain PNG Ports’ greatest asset, and with the success rate of the GDP, I am sure that the ongoing training programs will eventually ensure a highly competent and result-driven workforce,” he said.

Mr. Papenfus said this while congratulating 11 graduates who successfully completed the 18-month GDP and were offered job opportunities with PNG Ports.

The graduates were based in the Port of Lae and the PNG Ports Head Office in Port Moresby throughout the duration of the program.

The PNG Ports GDP runs for 18 months and offers high-performing graduates the opportunity to join the workforce as future managers and professional career employees with PNG Ports.

Under a training framework, PNG Ports has invested significantly for capacity building, talent development, career development programs and safety awareness.

The Training Program is part of the overall PNG Ports development agenda which includes the rehabilitation and upgrading of all port infrastructure.
