K1.97 billion worth contract signed for Pom-Central-Milne Bay, Sepik Coastal Highway

K1.97 billion worth contracts for Sepik Coastal Highway and new trans-National Highway to Milne Bay from Port Moresby via Central province were signed today at the Government House in Port Moresby.

The first contact is for the construction of 242km section of the Magi Highway between Moreguina Junction to Gadaisu in Central and Milne Bay provinces. Works also include engineering, procurement and financing.

The contract is valued at K1, 586,626,997.86, (One Billion, five hundred and eighty-six million, six hundred and twenty-six thousand, nine hundred and ninety-seven Kina and eighty-six toea) inclusive of GST.

It will be fully funded by the national Government. The contract duration is eight (8 years).

The National Executive Council has awarded the contract to China Overseas Engineering Group Company (COVEC) PNG Ltd.

Company representatives Wang Siguang and Yang Bo signed the contract before the Governor-General and Secretary of Department of Works & Highways Mr. Gibson Holemba.

The second contract the Governor-General executed, on behalf of the State, is for the construction of Wewak-Angoram Road along the Sepik Coastal Highway in East Sepik province.
Under the Connect PNG Program, construction and design of the road covers 87km section from Passam Junction to Angoram Station.

The contract is valued at K382, 517,799.41, inclusive of 10% GST, and will be fully funded by the national Government as well for a period of 4 years or 48 months.

The National Executive Council has approved to award the contract to China Railway Construction Engineering Group (PNG).

Company representatives Mr. Sam Jia and Klaus Jiang signed the contract before the Governor General and witnessed Secretary Holemba.

Member for Angoram and Minister for Forest Hon. Salio Waipo attended the contract signing ceremony at Government House today.
