PNG teachers resume duties today as academic year begins

Teachers across the country have officially resumed duties today, marking the start of preparations for the 2026 academic year.

The resumption of duty follows instructions from the National Department of Education, which has directed all teachers to report to their schools and complete required administrative processes ahead of the commencement of classes or go without pay. Our reporter visited Boreboa Primary School in Waigani this morning to learn whether the teachers have complied with the instruction or not.

In the National Capital District (NCD), teachers have begun filling out their Resumption of Duty Summary Sheets (RODSS) and the Teachers Recent Appointment forms (EDB 023) today as instructed by the NDoE.

However, due to the country’s challenging geographic conditions, schools in remote and rural areas have been given additional time to complete and submit their documentation.
Teachers in these areas are expected to submit their forms by January 26, while all provincial schools are required to complete submissions by January 24.

Meanwhile, the National Department of Education has confirmed that classes for the 2026 academic year will officially begin on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Education authorities have urged teachers and school administrators to comply with the timelines to ensure a smooth and orderly start to the academic year and for their salary payment purposes.
