REMOVE VETTING COMMITTE FOR CRIMINAL CASES AGAINST HIGH PROFILE SUSPECTS

Sinesine-Yongomugl MP and Opposition stalwart, Kerenga Kua asked Police Minister to tell him where in law have you been authorized to have established the Vetting Committee within the Police Fraud and Anti-Corruption Division for screening criminal cases lodged against high profile and white-collar suspects? Ban it right now if there is none!

These are the words of Sinesine-Yongomugl MP and Opposition stalwart, Kerenga Kua directed to the Internal Security Minister, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr.

On Tuesday, Kua was asking a supplementary question on the Vetting Committee.

He labelled the committee as double standard- one law for the big people while the other for ordinary citizens.

Kua called on the minister to ban it outright because it was creating a bottle neck to protect their own kind.

He expressed a concern that it was contributing to dilution of respect to rule of law by ordinary people.

He cited people taking law into their own hands.

In response, Minister Tsiamalili said the establishment of committee was an administrative matter for the police.

He said the committee had been in place for years even before his tenure in office.

The committee ensures no one collaborates and conspires with the members of the police force to pursue ones vested interests, he said.

It protects all of us. The committee knows no discrimination, said Minister Tsiamalili.
