The look on the Cross shows Compassion, Love, Forgiveness and Mercy: Jesus understands us

A powerful message titled “The Look” was delivered by Elder Eloise Sede this morning, drawing congregants into a deep reflection on the compassion, mercy and understanding found in Jesus Christ.

Reading from Psalm 103:14 “For He knows how we are made; He remembers that we are dust,” Elder Sede anchored her message on God’s intimate knowledge of human weakness and His unfailing grace.

She opened with a personal testimony involving a contractor at her workplace who received payment for services but failed to deliver.

Communication later broke down, prompting her to commit the matter to God through ten days of prayer and fasting.

Her prayers were grounded in 1 Peter 5:7, which calls believers to cast all their cares upon God. Elder Sede emphasized that fasting and prayer open the way for divine answers.

Turning to Scripture, she reflected on John 19:26–27, describing “the look of Jesus from the cross,” a look not of condemnation, but of love and care even in suffering.

She further illustrated her message with the account of Peter’s denial of Jesus from Mark 14:66–72 and Luke 22:61, where Jesus’ prophecy of Peter’s three denials is fulfilled.

Elder Sede posed two reflective questions to the congregation: What must Peter have felt at that moment? And what expression did Jesus have when He looked at Peter, and Peter looked back at Him?

According to Elder Sede, that look carried infinite forgiveness, mercy, compassion and love-the very character of God.

She reminded listeners that when believers look into the eyes of Jesus, they encounter grace rather than judgment.

Elder Sede returned to Psalm 103:14, reaffirming that God understands human frailty and responds not with rejection, but with enduring compassion.
