BALLOT BOXES FROM KABWUM BY-ELECTION BEING EXTRACTED TO LAE

Election officials in Morobe Province are continuing to collect ballot boxes from Kabwum By-Election by air for counting in Lae’s Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium.
The by-election was ordered by the Supreme Court.
NBC Morobe reports that today, teams are focused on getting boxes from Yus Local Level Government (LLG), the last of four LLGs in the district.
Yesterday, 20 ballot boxes were flown into Lae and safely stored at the stadium.
These included six boxes each from Selepet and Komba LLGs, and eight from Deyamos LLG.
Assistant Returning Officers read out each box’s serial number in front of scrutineers and counting officials to ensure transparency.
Morobe Election Manager Simon Soheke said everything is going well, although flight support is shared with the Usino-Bundi by-election in Madang.
He said all boxes should arrive by the weekend.
“Counting is expected to start early next week, after a boxing event ends, and a winner declared before August 7.”
