Today marks the last day for students to register themselves for the 2026 academic year at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) in Port Moresby.
However, some students told our reporter on campus that they are yet to complete their registration due to delays in processing overpayments and outstanding fees.
The University’s accounts office has been criticized for not fast-tracking the processing of overpayments for continuing students, leaving the students in limbo.
“The delay in processing overpayments has caused undue stress and hardship for students who are eager to continue their studies,” said a continuing student, whose name is withheld.
According to UPNG’s website, students with outstanding debts accumulated up to 2025, plus the compulsory fees for 2026, are required to pay in full to register.
The University has urged students to check their email and the UPNG website for official communication and instructions on registration.
The Acting Registrar, Mr. Roboam Kakap, had earlier announced that the 2026 Fee Structure, registration instructions, and important registration dates were available on the UPNG website.
However, the students claim that they have not received clear guidance on how to resolve their fee issues.
As the registration deadline lapses, students are calling on the administration to provide a solution for those affected by the accounts delay.
