The Digicel PNG Limited has officially extended its co-naming rights sponsorship of the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup for a further three years, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to rugby league in Papua New Guinea.
The monetary value of the sponsorship remains confidential.

However, for PNG Kumuls and Orchids, Digicel sponsored the teams last year with K3 million each for three years as well.
“As with many commercial partnerships, the financial details remain confidential. While we cannot disclose the financial details, the focus remains on the positive impact the partnership has in growing rugby league and supporting communities nationwide,” a source from the sponsor told our reporter when she enquired about the monetary terms of the sponsorship.
The announcement was made yesterday at the Santos National Football Stadium. The event was attended by Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League CEO Stanley Hondina, Digicel PNG CEO Tarik Boudiaf, PNG National Rugby League Competition Chairman Adrian Chow, Chief Marketing Officer for Digicel PNG Charaf Chouai, PNGRFL General Manager, Pathways and Performance Tony Archer and other guests.
PNGRFL CEO Stanley Hondina welcomed the renewal, describing Digicel as a key partner since 2011 and highlighting its role in the growth of the national competition.
He said the 2023 transition to a co-naming arrangement with ExxonMobil also helped attract greater investment into the game, ensuring its continued development.
Mr. Hondina acknowledged Digicel’s broader support across all levels of rugby league, including national teams and grassroots programs.
Speaking during the conference, CEO Tarif Boudiaf said the partnership has evolved beyond a traditional sponsorship into a shared national journey, contributing not only to the sport but also to communities and the country.
He emphasized that rugby league remains a powerful unifying force in Papua New Guinea, connecting people and creating opportunities for young athletes.
Me Boudiaf added that the renewed agreement represents a continued commitment to youth development, community engagement, and national progress.
Mr. Chow also credited Digicel’s long-term support for transforming the competition from modest beginnings into a more professional and nationally aligned league.
Chairman Chow said the sponsorship plays a critical role in meeting the high logistical costs of running the competition and expanding its reach across the country.
He also highlighted Digicel’s contribution to broadcasting matches and supporting technological improvements in officiating.
