Papua New Guinea’s undefeated boxer Sheila Yama will defend her IBF International Super Lightweight title against Australian opponent Jessica Messina in Auckland, New Zealand tomorrow (Saturday).
The bout will also serve as an IBF world title eliminator.
Yama, who holds a perfect professional record of seven wins, including three knockouts, will put her unbeaten record on the line against Australia’s Jessica Messina.
Messina enters the contest with eight wins and one loss. Victory for either boxer will strengthen their path towards a shot at the IBF world title.
The title defense comes less than three months after Yama captured the IBF International belt by stopping previously unbeaten Chinese opponent Yang Chengyu, becoming one of Papua New Guinea’s leading female professional boxers.
Dubbed PNG’s “Iron Woman”, Yama will carry the hopes of the nation into the ring as she seeks to retain her international title and edge closer to a world championship opportunity.
The fight will be broadcast live in Papua New Guinea on NBC Television and NBC Radio from 5pm on Saturday following the evening news.
Fans in New Zealand can watch through TVNZ+, while viewers in Australia can tune in via Kayo Sports and Main Event.
The bout will also be available through local broadcasters in Papua New Guinea, Poland and Latin America, while international viewers can watch via CSN Watch.
