Women in Enga Province have made a strong stand for peace, carrying out a peaceful march on Tuesday from Mambisanda through Wapenamanda Station and into Wabag Town.
The march was organized by the PNG Council of Churches Christian Women, who walked together with one clear message: “Lusim Gun, Kisim Bible.”
The call urges people to put down weapons and return to faith and unity.
This action comes as tribal fighting continues to affect many communities across the province.
However, the women say the impact is deeply personal.
Many have lost husbands and sons, while others are now raising children alone. In addition, many children have been left without parents, bringing ongoing pain to families.
Meanwhile, the women also raised concern over the growing number of young men and boys taking part in violence and drug use.
They warned that this is putting the future of Enga at risk and must be stopped.
Guided by the theme, “Children are precious gifts from God,” the women stood firm and united.
They called on communities, leaders, and youths to respect life and work together for peace.
The peace march is part of a five-day conference now underway at the Gutnius Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea headquarters in Irelya.
The gathering is bringing together church women leaders from across the country to discuss ways to restore peace, strengthen families, and rebuild communities.
The conference is hosted by GLCPNG, with the official opening expected following the arrival of PNG Council of Churches Women executives.
