Mr. Caleb Eka is from Southern Highlands, but he was born and grew up in West New Britain (Kimbe).
Mr. Eka told PNG SUN: “I treat education as my garden, in hoping that one time I will harvest the fresh fruits.”
So today, I was blessed and harvesting with the Academic Excellence awards of:
● Top Student Award (Bachelor of Science – Earth Science Division).
● Academic Excellence Award in Earth Science Program (New Porgera Limited, Certificate of Merit).
“It is not just about awards, but I was employed by New Porgera Limited.”
“I flew from Porgera Mine Site last week to graduate, so after graduation now, I will go back to work,” Mr. Eka said.
He challenged the young students: “It is must that education journey is not easy, but it starts with challenges and obstacles.”
“But everything is possible when we have the right mindset.”
“My encouragement is whatever situation you face, do not need to complain or give up. It is not only in academics but every aspect of life.”
“Challenges and obstacles are there to give you more strength to work harder to overcome and achieve your goals in education.”
He quoted from one of his seniors named Leo Puri: “Do not complain about challenges and problems in life, work behind to overcome.”
He expressed gratitude and appreciation to his family, who witnessed his graduation.
“My achievement is the collective efforts from my family, relatives, and community,” he said while dedicating his effort to them.
Above all, he said, he extended his dedication of the other two academic awards to his hard-working mother and father.
“I thanked everyone who has contributed to my education journey this far, and I also dedicated to you all,” Mr. Eka said.
He said that going back to continue work with two Academic Excellence awards really satisfied my commitments in studying for over time.
He is expected to return to New Porgera Limited in Enga Province anytime this week.
