Mendi Menjails win Women’s Title, Husano Sura crowned Men’s Champions

The Souths National Basketball Tournament ended in thrilling fashion on Monday at the Sir John Guise Stadium, with Mendi Menjails winning the women’s title and Husano Sura claiming the men’s championship.

Mendi Menjails secured the women’s crown after defeating Honipolu 33-32 in a closely contested grand final. The victory earned the team K35,000 in prize money.

Earlier in the semifinals, the Menjails defeated Kutubu Lakers 28-25 in a physical encounter. Kutubu Lakers pushed hard throughout the match, but Mendi Menjails held firm under pressure to secure their place in the final.

The men’s division also produced an exciting finish. Husano Sura booked their place in the grand final after edging Pawasi 33-31 in the semifinals.

In the championship decider, Husano Sura defeated Mendi Menjails 32-30 in another tight contest to claim the men’s title and K35,000 prize money.

Both grand finals were decided by narrow margins, highlighting the competitiveness of the tournament and the growing basketball talent on display throughout the competition.

The results capped off a successful tournament at the stadium with Mendi Menjails finishing the event with the women’s title and a runner-up placing in the men’s division, while Husano Sura emerged as the top men’s team heading into next season.
