Teaching Service Commission has warned students, parents and communities across the country that continued attacks on teachers could lead to teaching staff being withdrawn from affected schools.
TSC Acting Chairman Maini Mike Ugaia issued the warning following the recent brutal attack on the headmaster of Morobe Technical High School, describing the incident as part of a growing concern over violence against educators serving communities.
Mr. Ugaia said the Commission would no longer tolerate the victimization of teachers and called on communities to protect educators and resolve disputes through proper channels.
“This is a serious criminal matter, and the police will deal with the perpetrators accordingly,” Mr. Ugaia said in a statement.
To assess the immediate impact of the incident, he directed the TSC Advisor for Morobe Province to visit the school and submit a comprehensive situation report.
Mr. Ugaia said administrative or internal disputes within schools must be addressed through established institutional processes and not through violence.
He warned that the Commission would take action if teachers continued to be attacked.
“If communities continue to attack teachers, the TSC will remove them from that school and reassign them to different schools. There will be no educational services for communities that fail to respect and protect our teachers,” he said.
Mr. Ugaia said teachers provided an essential service to children, and the country and their safety could not be compromised.
“Teachers provide a vital service to the development of our children and our country, and their safety cannot be compromised,” he said.
He also called on local community leaders, ward members and peace officers to intervene early and help resolve conflicts before they escalate into violence against teachers.
